With a simple misspelling of a name or a social security number being transposed, credit report could contain someone else's information. This is especially true for people who have the same name at the same address, such as family members with the same name. For example, if an account is closed and it's still showing as open on free annual credit report, you're going to want to get that taken care of. Also, if some accounts are showing balances owed and know for a fact you paid those balances off, going to want to address that as well.
